To promote and maintain camaraderie among the faculty and residents, the
Department of Surgery established the Woodward Society in 1980 to honor Edward R.
Woodward, MD. Dr. Woodward was a
nationally known leader in gastrointestinal surgery and was the founding
Chairman of the Department of Surgery at the University of Florida.
The society's role is to enrich the surgical tradition at UF by supporting
surgical research and education and to bind together those who have been a part
of the development of the Department of Surgery through the years.
