Alan I. Reed
M.D. |
RESEARCH INTERESTS:
Dr. Reed's
research is clinically based. His association with Dr. Elizabeth
Shankman in the Department of Epidemiology and Health Policy
Research has lead to three new IRB proposals on outcomes
measurements of various kinds following liver transplantation. The
first two have been approved. The first is a liver transplant
database that will allow the collection of critical information on
liver transplant recipients for later study. The second is a a
financial analysis to see whether the MELD allocation system is
predictive of transplant case cost and to determine whether a
formula for the prediction of case cost can be derived. The third,
pending approval, regards the clinical efficacy and cost
effectiveness of an anti-fungal prophylaxis regimen in liver
transplant patients. His project on liver re-transplantation was
accepted for publication in Transplantation Proceedings. Dr. Reed is
also working on a third project (IRB approved) that fits into the
3-D reconstruction effort. This project compares the use of 3-D
stereoscopic imaging to standard 3-D reconstruction with respect to
identifying the anatomy of renal donors (LRD's).
