Email considerations

Email Server Name(s)

  • NetBios:           srg-exchange
  • Fully Qualified: srg-exchange.ad.ufl.edu

When setting up Outlook use the NetBios name when asked for the server name. If you are using an alternate DNS server your system may not be able to resolve the NetBios name. In that case use the fully qualified name for the server.

If you have previously been using Outlook from home you will need to make some changes to your setup.

Download these Instructions

The basic steps in text are found below.

As always connect to the VPN first. Then, with Outlook Closed:

  1. Open Control Panel
  2. Double Click the "Mail" icon
  3. Click on the "E-mail Accounts..." button
  4. Select the "View or change existing e-mail accounts" radio button the click "Next"
  5. Select the "Microsoft Exchange Server" then the "Change" button
  6. Enter "srg-exchange" in the server field
  7. Enter your GatorLink ID in the User Name field
  8. Click the "Check Name" button

After clicking the Check Name button the system will find your mailbox and replace your GatorLink ID in the User Name field with your full name. You may be presented with a list of similar names from the address book. Find and select the correct entry.

If the above fails to communicate with the server try using the fully qualified name in the server field.

URL for Web Access

http://webmail.ad.ufl.edu

The logon screen for web access is a little different than previously. If you are on a fast connection, select the "Premium" radio button. Select the appropriate option for whether you are on a public or private computer.

Remember. Use your GatorLink information to log in. The interface will look amazingly like Outlook but it is a web application. As such, scrolling and refreshing are a little more manual than the actual Outlook client. Overall I believe you will see a huge improvement over the old system.
