UF Active Directory Domain Migration What...? |
|
|
The Department of Surgery is migrating from our stand-alone domain of "Surgery" to the central University of Florida Active Directory, "UFAD". This is essentially the back-end infrastructure that handles our user and computer accounts. For the most part this migration will be transparent to the end user. However, There will be some changes that you will need to be aware of and these will be outlined here. Why migrate? By migrating to UFAD we will obtain economies of scale, consolidation of the users network identity at UF, more efficient cross department sharing and distribution of networked resources and access to centrally supported resources such as front-end Exchange servers hosting webmail, ActiveSync, VersaMail and Blackberry Enterprise Server. Benefits of this include eliminating duplicate accounts, duplication of effort, conserving resources and fewer servers to manage. While the Department and users as a whole will benefit, many of these will be most evident to the technical staff. It is our intention that with less work on the back-end IT staff will be able to provide better and more focused support on the front-end.
