The Department of Surgery is leveraging the power of today's laptop. By purchasing new laptops with a full docking solution including a full size monitor and keyboard we are able to use the system as a desktop replacement as well as meeting the users mobile computing needs. The mobility requirement adds new variables into the purchase decision and should be considered carefully when making a purchase decision. Does it need to be mobile from the living room to the porch? Or, will you need to be ultra-mobile, transiting a series of airports on your way to meetings and conferences? Considerations include:

Please see the Dell website for specifications and information on these and other models. All of the above models have different properties that you may or may not be looking for. For example, the D430 is very mobile. However an integrated CD/DVD is not an option. It only accomodates an external drive. This may be Ok for some and not for others. Please review the options on the above and other models then consult with Computer Services. We look at these if not every day, every week. We can help you get the best notebook for your needs. The Department of Surgery maintains standing quotes for the two most requested models.
If you want to include broadband this option can be added. Estimated cost is $200.00. All systems are installed with Windows XP SP2. All mobile systems will be configured for encryption by Computer Services prior to being released. An ecryption license will add an additonal $90.00 to the purchase price. Please include this in your budget. |
