Accessing your Data from Remote Locations There are several methods of accessing data off the Department of Surgery file servers. Before accessing any data from network sources you should be aware of and abide by all security policy and considerations appropriate to the data being accessed. If you have any doubt at all, do not move, copy or store data off the network. Note that the UF VPN is a prerequisite for all remote connections with the exception of the web client for the Terminal Server and Remote Desktop. The web based Remote File Access (RFA) also does not require VPN. Word doc with UF VPN Instructions Terminal Server / Remote Desktop This allows you to connect to the Dept. Termial Server or if configured, your office workstation or laptop. This is a very clean and efficient method to access your data. You get your everyday desktop and all data remains on the network. This documents provides instructions for utilizing the web based "RFA". This provides access to data stored on the Dept. file servers. Note that it is not recommended to open MS Access files using the RFA. Do not map drives from unmanaged machines! Mapping a drive allows you to connect to the Department file servers and access data directly. If you map a drive from an unmanaged machine that happens to be infected with a virus or other malware you risk infecting all of the network shares. Use the UF VPN service to connect to the UF network to access files and resources. This document includes instructions for setting up Outlook using a VPN or the preferred RPC over HTTP protocol. This document includes instructions for creating rules in Outlook to manage messages flagged as {SPAM?} by the spam filter. Having problems authenticating? Qualify the Domain! At times the username and password you enter are not accepted even though you know they are correct. This could be due to the authenticating system not know where to look. In this case you can qualify the domain using the "domain\username" format. In our case the Domain is "UFAD". Therefore if your username is JoeCool, to qualify the domain you would enter it as: UFAD\JoeCool Note the direction of the slash "\". The full version of McAfee virus scan is available to all UF Faculty and staff. It can be downloaded from the UF Software site. This document includes instructions for reconfiguring the DNS nameservers. If you have problems connecting to the internet at some hotels, T-Mobile hotspots or other pay-for or subscription wireless access areas read this document. If you are having problems connecting to computers, web pages or mapped drives, this may resolve your problem. |
