Your UF GatorLink account will be used to login and access all Dept. of Surgery Resources. If you do not have a GatorLink account, Computer Services can create one for you. If you know your UFID you can point your browser to http://my.ufl.edu and create one there. Please contemplate your choice of username as this will become your permanent network identity at the University of Florida. Our standard convention is the last name prefixed with first and second initials. The Department of Surgery will supply you with a mailbox on the Department Exchange server. Your email address will be: first.last@surgery.ufl.edu The standard mail client to access this mailbox is Microsoft Outlook. Outlook is installed and configured on all Department of Surgery managed workstations and laptops. Web access is available to your mailbox via http://webmail.ad.ufl.edu If you have the Outlook client on your home PC there are multiple options for connecting to your Surgery Mailbox. Please check our How to Configure Outlook Document. Space is provided for shared storage at the department and divisional levels as well as space for personal use. General drive mapping is as follows: G:\Public - Shared Department Wide This is shared to the entire department. If you need to save a document that will be accessed across divisions, this space is appropriate. G:\Division - Shared to division (where “Division” = your division name) This is shared at the division level. Only users in your division will see or have access to the contents of this directory. Documents relative to the business of your division should be saved here. N:\Database For informational purposes only. At the user level you would have only shortcuts pointing to specific applications on this drive. S:\SurgeryApps - Install point for Networked Applications U:\username This space is provided for your personal use. This space is accessible only by you. Responsible use of networked storage space is requested and expected. Do not store entertainment video, music files, personal image files or other large files on the department servers. Temporary storage of these type files is allowed. However, these should be archived to CD or stored on local drives as soon as practicable. There is a cost associated with maintaining and backing up networked data. Space is finite and we must budget to purchase more. Department of Surgery Services can be accessed using the UF VPN Service. This includes mapping drives, connecting older (Pre 2003) Outlook clients, utilizing remote desktop or other services. If you are using a Windows Operating System you will want to use use the Built in L2TP/IPsec client. Full instructions are available from UF Net Services via the link.
