Patient Care Services |

Our mission is to provide the highest quality gastrointestinal surgery care. To render the best care possible requires substantial preparation by the patient and the surgeon. Therefore, for the surgeon has to be as informed as possible about a patient's condition; we ask that all related medical records be in our office one-week in advance of our first clinic visit. In addition, CDs of actual pertinent x-rays should be forwarded in the same time frame. This permits review and evaluation of this material and allows ample time to schedule any additional tests that may be needed at the time of the initial visit. In addition, prior to your first visit you will receive a health questionnaire which you should bring completed at the time of your visit. At the time of the first visit you will be seen by a resident physician and the attending surgeon who will evaluate your condition and develop a plan that may or may not include additional testing prior to surgery. If a decision for surgery is made, you will undergo preoperative preparation in the surgical clinic and be seen by our anesthesia colleagues in the preoperative clinic. If additional medical conditions warrant further evaluation you be seen by one of our colleagues in internal medicine. Many of our operations require a bowel prep that is done the day before the operation. Typically, the date of surgery is 2-4 weeks after the initial visit depending on the disease and overall patient health. Many of our patients have outpatient procedures permitting patients to arrive at the hospital in the morning and leave later the same day. For those patients that are admitted to the hospital after a procedure, the length of stay is variable and dependent on the magnitude of the operation. |
