- Dr. Beaver has a wide array of clinical interests including thoracic aortic surgery, the surgical treatment of atrial fibrillation and minimally invasive mitral and aortic valve operations. Dr. Beaver also specializes in surgery for heart failure including high-risk coronary artery bypass, surgical restoration of the ventricle ("the Dor procedure"), ventricular assist devices and heart and lung transplantation.

- Dr. Beaver's clinical research efforts focus on making cardiac and aortic surgery safer and easier for patients through minimally invasive techniques and improved postoperative management. He is involved in multiple clinical trials evaluating newer technologies including safer cannulas, TEVAR "Thoracic Endovascular Aortic Repair" or "stent-grafting" for thoracic aortic aneurysms and dissections, renal protective strategies and avoiding cardiopulmonary bypass altogether.
- Laboratory investigations include projects studying the inflammatory response following cardiac surgery and renal protection strategies for cardiovascular surgery.
